Victor Lance Vescovo is a private equity investor from the United States. He is also a retired naval officer, a space tourist, and an underwater explorer. Vescovo was born in 1966. Insight Equity Holdings, a private equity firm, was founded by him, and he serves as the company’s managing partner.

Commander Vescovo served in the United States Navy Reserve for twenty years as an intelligence officer before retiring in 2013. (O-5). Vescovo started the Five Deeps Expedition in 2018 to dive to the deepest point in each of the five seas by September 2019.
Voyage Deep Ocean documented this expedition. The expedition crew collected biological samples and confirmed the depth at each location one month before the plan. The expedition also divided the Horizon Deep, Sirena Deep, and Diamantina Fracture Zone.
In December 2018, he became the first person to reach the deepest point of the Atlantic Ocean by piloting DSV Limiting Factor, a US$50 million submarine system (Triton 36000/2)—including its support ship, the DSSV Pressure Drop and its three ultra-deep-sea robotic landers—8,376 m (27,480 ft) below the ocean surface to the base of the Puerto Rico Trench, which world media dubbed Brownson Deep.
He was the first to reach the bottom of the Southern Ocean at the southern South Sandwich Trench on February 4, 2019. The team mapped the trench using a Kongsberg EM124 multibeam sonar system.
Vescovo dived to the bottom of the Indian Ocean in the Sunda Trench south of Bali on April 16, 2019.
On the Limiting Factor, too. The researchers saw a hadal snailfish and a stalked ascidian-like gelatinous invertebrate they thought were new species. Dr. Alan Jamieson, the expedition’s chief scientist, and Triton Submarines President Patrick Lahey did the same dive.
2019 Vescovo reached the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench Challenger Deep on April 28, 2019. He set a world record by 16 m by piloting the DSV Limiting Factor to 10,928 m (35,853 ft) on his first descent (52 ft).
On May 1, he became the first to dive the Challenger Deep twice, finding “at least three new species of marine animals” and “some form of plastic garbage.”
Vescovo found a snailfish at 26,250 ft (8,000 m) and the deepest spoon worm discovered at nearly 23,000 ft (7,000 m).
Vescovo and Jamieson performed the first human-occupied deep submersible dive to the Sirena Deep, the third deepest point in the ocean, 128 miles northeast of Challenger Deep, on May 7, 2019. They collected mantle rock from the Mariana Trench’s western slope in 176 minutes.
On August 24, 2019, Vescovo reached 5,550 m (18,210 ft) in the Arctic Ocean’s Molloy Deep, completing the Five Deeps Expedition.

Guinness World Records named Victor Vescovo the highest vertical climber on Earth in 2019. Vescovo scaled Mount Everest (8,848 metres (29,029 ft)) on May 24, 2010, to complete the Explorers Grand Slam (Last Degree).
On April 29, 2019, aboard the deep submersible Limiting Factor, he descended to the bottom of the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench (−10,924 metres (−35,840 feet)), Earth’s lowest point (64,869 ft).
Vescovo completed the Explorers Grand Slam (Last Degree) by climbing the highest mountain on seven continents and skiing the Last Degree of Latitude at the North and South Poles. Vescovo dived at each ocean’s deepest point during his Five Deeps Expedition.
He is the first human to reach the bottom of the Puerto Rico Trench, Sunda Trench, Molloy Deep, Sirena Deep, Horizon Deep, and the deepest point of the Southern Ocean, the southern end of the South Sandwich Trench.

These included former astronaut and NOAA Administrator Kathryn Sullivan, the first woman to ultimate depth; Kelly Walsh, the son of Don Walsh (who, with Jacques Piccard, made the first dive into the Challenger Deep) to become the only father/son team to make this journey 60 years apart; and Vanessa O’Brien, the first woman to climb Everest and descend to the seafloor (Vescovo was the first person).
