Sugarfish, a beloved West Coast omakase sushi shop, and its sister hand roll haven, KazuNori, are finally launching in the Big Apple.
Chef Kazunori Nozawa and partner Jerry Greenberg are slated to open a KazuNori, the Original Hand Roll Bar, at 15 W. 28th., early next year.
In addition, the group will launch Sugarfish, a high quality, reasonably priced sushi chain, at 33 E. 20th St. this November. The two-story space is 1,600 square feet and will seat around 40 people.
Sugarfish launched in Marina del Rey, Calif., in 2008 with $30 omakase “trust me” menus — from Chef Kazunori, who ran the small high-end Sushi Nozawa in Studio City, Calif., from 1978 until 2012.
Kazunori and Greenberg source fish from around the world, including sea urchin uni from the coast of Southern California, and plan to add East Coast fish from Montauk, LI, to their Manhattan menu, sources say.
The East 28th Street space is 1,700 square feet. Jacqueline Klinger and Taryn Brandes of SCG Retail represented the tenant and Richard Skulnik and Lindsay Zegans of Ripco repped the landlord.
A new steakhouse is planning to open at 62 Greenwich Ave, this November, Side Dish has learned.
Restaurateur Frank Gocaj, who is also a contractor and built out the $3.5 million gut-renovated space, is currently importing handmade furniture from Europe for the restaurant.
The steakhouse will be helmed by partner Chef Victor Chavez, who retired earlier this year from Smith & Wollensky after 38 years.
The 2,000-square-foot space will seat 60 people over two floors, plus 14 seats at a 17-foot-long bar.
