UFC president Dana White fumes at MMA legend Clay Guida for faking retirement to send his mother a m

Dana White was not happy at seeing MMA legend Clay Guida pretend to retire during the UFC’s latest event.

MMA’s premier promotion returned to Kansas City on Saturday night for a show headlined by former featherweight champion Max Holloway, who beat British contender Arnold Allen.

Before Holloway outpointed ‘Almighty’ over five rounds, Guida took off his gloves to signify his retirement following a decision defeat against Rafa Garcia.

UFC interviewer Daniel Cormier approached him expecting a career-ending speech but ‘The Carpenter’ quickly revealed he will continue to fight.

Guida said: “I tricked you guys. There ain’t no way I’m walking away yet.

"I want to congratulate this young man Rafa Garcia and I want to ask Rafa Garcia to trade gloves with me because that was a heck of a performance by him.”

Guida then proceeded to send several happy birthday messages, including one to his mother, who was in the crowd to watch her son in his 60th professional MMA fight.

UFC boss White was asked about Guida’s bizarre post-fight antics after the event and made no secret of his feelings about the whole situation.

White said: “That p***ed me off actually, to be honest with you.

“No, that p***ed me off. I like [Clay Guida], he’s a nice guy, but you’re faking your retirement so you can say f****** happy birthday to somebody?”

“We’re running a live event here, you know what I mean? I was not happy about that. He was saying happy birthday to somebody or something. That was not good.”

Guida is one of the longest-serving fighters in the UFC ranks, making his octagon debut in August 2006. He is among the top five for most takedowns landed in the promotion's history.

Earlier in the evening, two UFC veterans retired for real.

Zak Cummings, 38, scored a third-round TKO win in his hometown before calling time on his career which included 10 UFC fights and wins over Nicolas Dalby, Trevin Giles, and Alessio Di Chirico.

After getting knocked out by Cummings, Ed Herman retired from fighting too.

The 42-year-old walks away with a 26-16 record and high-profile wins over former UFC light-heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira and ex-middleweight contender Tim Boetsch.
